KDP (Kindle Direct Publishing)
Amazon's self-publishing platform, which lets you publish an ebook or a paperback directly on Amazon, without a publisher.
KDP lets any author put their book on sale on Amazon within hours: upload the file, write the product page (title, description, keywords, categories), set the price, and publish. Amazon pays a royalty (generally 35% or 70% of the price depending on the price range you choose and the region).
KDP enforces precise formatting constraints: margins, cover size, interior file dimensions depending on the format (digital or paperback). A file that doesn't follow these rules may be rejected during validation.
KDP is only one sales channel among others: nothing stops you from selling the same book on Gumroad, Payhip or your own store at the same time, as long as you haven't enrolled in KDP Select (exclusivity).
Worth remembering with Makebook
Makebook's export pack produces a file that already meets KDP standards, so there's no layout to redo before you upload.
