The guide

A good outline is half the book. Before you write a single page, you need to know where you're taking your reader: what problem they have at the start, and what result they'll have on the last page. Every chapter should bring them closer to that destination.

Write your book's promise in one sentence, then ask yourself for each chapter: "What does the reader know or what can they do after reading it?" If you have no answer, the chapter probably doesn't belong.

Avoid the two classic traps: an outline that is too short and leaves gaps, and one that is too long where everything repeats. Between 6 and 12 chapters, with 3 to 5 points each, is a good balance for a first book.

Frequently asked questions

How many chapters should a book have?

For a non-fiction book, aim for 6 to 12 chapters. Enough to cover your topic in depth, not so many that the reader gets lost.

How do you structure a non-fiction book?

Start from the transformation you promise the reader, then break the journey into logical steps: the problem, the foundations, the method, real-life examples, then taking action.

Can I edit the generated outline?

Of course. The outline is a starting point: move, merge or delete chapters until it feels like yours, then run it again if you want another take.
